Adopted Families Project
The Adopted Families Project assists people who are trying to help themselves. That assistance may take the form of rent or utility payments, household items, food, or Christmas presents. The project has no overhead costs; church members donate household items and money. All the donations go directly to the people we're trying to help.
We have an indoor storage unit where we keep donated items. The rent for the unit is paid for by a couple from St. Paul. Sometimes folks come to the unit and "shop" for things they need; that works really well because they get what they want and they also feel as if they've gained a little control in their lives. Sometimes we stay in touch with families for a long time and sometimes it’s only a single, brief encounter. Some of the people we’ve helped have become good friends and have, in turn, helped us help others.
We have no official committee or meetings — but we do have a great group of volunteers who pitch in to get things done. People with trucks pick up large donated items and take them to the families or the storage unit. Other folks deliver things like Christmas presents or diapers. It’s the people of St. Paul, with God’s guiding hand, that make the project work.
