Lay Assisting Ministers

the pastor and assisting minister smile during a serviceA member of Worship and Music schedules the Assisting Ministers; they usually serve once every two or three months. Duties of Assisting Ministers include: writing prayers of intercession for worship service; participating in the liturgy by singing or speaking certain parts; serving as a minister during communion by distributing the bread and blessing children (and anyone else) who comes forward for a blessing; and assisting the presiding minister with the entire service, which may include helping with baptisms, welcoming new members, etc.

Helping to lead worship is a very special experience. Distributing communion adds a whole new layer to the meaning of the sacrament. Writing the prayers allows the Assisting Minister a chance to personalize in light of the specific needs of the congregation, the community, and the world.
