Curriculum

Staff at Calico Butterfly Preschool embrace Developmentally Appropriate Practice and provide opportunities to enable children to gain a positive self-image, learn self-help skills, develop and practice social skills, cognitive skills, and physical coordination. We believe that it is important that children be able to express creativity, respect cultural diversity, and develop a sense of responsibility and independence. We do not emphasize academics, but do include readiness skills in activities designed to expose children to them in diverse ways. [more...]

calico kids perform for the mother's day luncheon
  • Chapel: Our preschool classes have chapel on Tuesday mornings throughout the school year. Chapel is led by the Pastor, volunteer Calico Board member, School Director, or teachers and includes a Bible lesson and singing.
  • Music: Our music teacher comes to Calico once a week during the school year and works with the preschool children. The music curriculum includes songs, finger plays, rhythm activities, and movement. Traditionally the children perform at our Fall Festival and at the Mother’s Day luncheon.
  • Dance Class: Kids Love to Dance, a local, private dance instructional company, provides dance and movement opportunities for the preschool children at Calico. This instructional opportunity is optional but is provided on-site. Tuition is paid by parents directly to the instructional group.
